Tips to Have a Healthy Summer

Have a Healthy Summer at Friendly Ford

Summertime has long been considered a time of relaxation, sunshine, fun, and indulgence. However, with a little preparation, you can have a healthy summer while still having fun. Read our tips below to find out how.

  • Use sunscreen. While you might want to head to the beach to soak up the rays, you still need to apply a sunscreen with a least a rating of SPF 30. Reapply every two to three hours, especially if swimming.
  • Drink water. The summer sun can easily lead to a hot, sweaty day. This, in turn, can leave you dehydrated. Drink plenty of water or try other healthy alternatives like green tea, coconut water, or even a juicy piece of fruit.
  • Keep exercising. If the high temperatures make you avoid outdoor exercise, considering joining a gym, watching and following along with exercise videos at home, or switching your exercise routine to early in the morning or later in the evening when it is cooler outside.
  • Bring healthy snacks. For your next family outing, plan ahead and pack a cooler full of healthy snacks like yogurt, veggies and hummus, peanut butter wraps, and fruit. This can help you avoid relying on fast food.

Tips and Tricks for Removing Car Scratches

vehicle detailUnfortunately, car scratches and dents tend to be an unavoidable part of car ownership. Whether someone else opened their car door into yours, your kid used your car as a resting spot for their sporting equipment, or you accidentally dried your car with a dirty towel, superficial scratches are likely to happen at some point. Here are some tips and tricks for removing car scratches.

First, determine what kind of scratch your car has endured. If your car is just scratched on the surface of the clear coat, you’ll be able to polish the scratch out with compound.  Using a kit found at automotive parts stores, you can easily buff out the area immediately surrounding the scratch. If you find that you’ve removed too much of the clear coat, you may have to reapply clear coat to even out the top layer (see below).

If your car’s scratch has penetrated through the clear coat to the base coat or primer, you’ll need to actually fill the scratch in with matching paint. Once you’ve added paint or primer to the scratch, let it sit overnight. Once it has cured, use 600- or 1000-grit wet-or-dry sandpaper to sand the area just until the new paint is flush with the rest of the car’s finish. Use compound to re-gloss the area. If you find you have low spots in the scratch, repeat the process until it is 100% smooth.

If you’ve sanded through or removed any clear coat, you’ll need to reapply clear coat. Buy automotive clear coat spray intended for spot repairs, and follow the direction to properly apply the clear coat to the affected area.

How to Keep Your Car Cool in Summer

cars on lotKeeping your car comfortable in the summer usually means keeping it cool during the day. Obvious methods to keep your car cool in summer include parking in a garage, in the shade, or leaving the windows down.

But, doing this at work can be difficult if there’s no parking garage or available shade. Leaving the windows down for hours on end is a safety issue. So what do you do? We here at Friendly Ford are here to help you keep your car cool in summer!

Purchasing a sunshade is one of the best ways to both keep your car cool and protect your interior. You can also go the extra mile and have a custom sunshade made to fit your windshield’s specifications.

Blocking out the sun protects your interior from UV rays and keeps your car up to 10 degrees cooler. Throw a towel over the steering wheel to protect your hands from heat as well.

If you’re a driver who likes to blast themselves with air conditioning as soon as they jump into the car, reconsider that. Instead, switch the setting to “fresh air” and open the bottom vents. Open your windows as well–hot air rises so the cool air from the bottom vents will push the hot air up and out. When you’re comfortable, close the windows, switch to “re-circulation,” and head home!

Having a Great Game Day: Super Bowl Party Tips

Super Bowl PartyAnother Super Bowl has gone by, and we at Friendly Ford hope you took the opportunity to celebrate friends, football, and finger foods. The incentive to throw a proper Super Bowl party is significant—as you probably saw last weekend, it can make things interesting even when the game is not. So here are a few Super Bowl party tips for next year from the Huffington Post.

BE DIFFERENT.  Yes, everyone loves pizza. You can’t beat it in a pinch. But, if you have the time, try to present unique food choices. Make your own dip or use a slow-cooker to make your own chili.

BE PREPARED. Don’t wait until the last minute to arrange your living room or whichever room you plan to watch the big game in. You may need to grab chairs or furniture from other rooms. Arrange them in such a way to give everyone a good view. Plus, if guests arrive and see that they have seating, they will feel all the more welcome.

CAN’T PLEASE ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME.  Just get a keg or a mini-keg. Everyone has their own taste in beer and they’re proud of it. But you can’t please all of the people all of the time. Save some money and get a mini-keg.  Encourage people to bring their own drinks if they’re picky.

SEND INVITATIONS EARLY. Give people plenty of advice warning. Send out invites via text or social media a couple of weeks beforehand.
