Meet Matt Yockey, Our Friendly Ford General Manager

Friendly Ford is thrilled that Matt Yockey has been promoted to the role of General Manager here at the dealership. Matt has been with the company for quite a while and all his hard work has definitely paid off. We sat down with Matt to learn a little bit about his background, interests, and goals for the dealership.

Are you from the Roselle, IL area?

I live in St. Charles, IL, which is about 25 minutes away. I was born and raised there.

How did you come to work at Friendly Ford?

Friendly Ford

Friendly Ford GM – Matt Yockey

In High School I got into a program where I could work for half of the day, and so, I went to Friendly Ford and I asked for a job. They started me off washing cars and sweeping floors. Soon after that I worked my way up to becoming a Lube Tech/ Mechanic. I liked it so much I decided to attend UTI (Universal Technical Institute) and graduate Ford FACT, which is basically becoming an authorized Ford Motor Company Technician. From there I became a Master Diesel Mechanic, Service Manager, and then finally became the GM of this great dealership and team.

What are your future goals for Friendly Ford?

I would really like to see Friendly Ford grow into a larger business. Right now, we are a “small fish in a big sea”, and I want to become the standard for building great relationships with customers and customer service itself in Roselle. We really care about our customers, and I want to show each one that we appreciate them stopping by to see us.

What are you most passionate about when it comes to your job?

I love the variety this job offers. Each day is different from the customers I help and employees I work with to the cars that come to our lot and service team. I cannot guess what my day will be like. There is never a dull moment, and I am excited for what the day will bring.

If you could have your dream car, what would it be?

That is a tough question! I have more than one. Can I just have them all? Half of me wants to go towards the supercar, the Ford GT. Everyone likes that. I also have a little part of me that wants an old Ford Mustang retrofitted to the new body style and engine, but the hillbilly part of me wants a monster, jacked diesel engine truck. In the end, I guess I don’t just have one. I have like six.

Outside of work, what do you do for fun?

Matt Yockey - Friendly Ford

Matt with his wife and daughter.

I love to boat and go boating, and wake surfing is a lot of fun. Other than that, snowmobiles and ATVs take up most of my time. I have a little girl now, so I end up hanging out with her and my wife a lot as well, which is amazing.

If they made a movie about your life, what famous actor would you like to play you?

The Rock! I love The Rock. He makes everything better and he’s a Ford guy!

Now that you’ve learned a little bit about Matt Yockey, stop by Friendly Ford today and say hello! Whether you’re looking to buy a vehicle or get it serviced, Matt will make sure you’re in good hands.

Ford Shelby GT350R Auction Raises $1 Million for Diabetes Research

Ford Shelby GT250R auctionWhen the first Ford Shelby® GT350R Mustang rolled off the assembly line, it wasn’t headed to Chi-town to join our display of vehicles here at Friendly Ford—or any other dealership for that matter. Instead, the road racer was delivered to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction where it was awarded to the highest bidder. The winning bid of the VIN 001 Shelby GT350R earned $1,000,000 for JDRF and its research in type 1 diabetes.

While the Shelby GT350R ‘Stang won’t officially go on sale until later this year, the auction of the first-ever retail production vehicle caused great excitement in the world of auto enthusiasts. It was also an exciting day for those affiliated with JDRF. The non-profit organization is dedicated to researching ways to better treat type 1 diabetes as they work to find a cure.

The $1,000,000 in funds received from the Ford Shelby GT350R auction will support the organization’s research.

JDRF is honored to share in Ford’s 50-year celebration of the new Shelby GT350R at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale,” said JDRF president and CEO, Derek Rapp. “As the leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research, JDRF is extremely proud of our long-time partnership with Ford, and we are tremendously thankful for Ford’s continued support of JDRF. JDRF benefits greatly from this partnership, which is an essential element of our pursuit of our shared vision of a world without type 1.”

First Production 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang Auction to Benefit JDRF

Shelby GT350 Mustang AuctionFord is no stranger to helping those in need. The automaker frequently donates money to various causes and organizations—the latest of which is JDRF, a national organization dedicated to the funding of type 1 diabetes research. In order to help JDRF continue its mission in the New Year, Ford is holding a 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang auction at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona next month. The winner will become the proud owner of the first production 2015 Shelby GT350 with his or her choice of color and packages.

The auction coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350 Mustang, which was offered between 1965 and 1970 and has become one of the most iconic and sought-after classic cars ever made. The Shelby GT350 is coming back to the market for 2015, and this auction is Ford’s way of reintroducing it with a bang.

“The all-new Shelby GT350 is a thrilling, world-class car,” remarked Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford. “From the all-new independent suspension – a first for a Shelby, to the powerful engine and superb brakes, this car is simply amazing. Just as the Shelby GT350 did in 1965, we expect this new-generation pony car to demonstrate Ford Motor Company continues to lead the world in innovation and performance.”

Competition at the auction is sure to be fierce. We at Friendly Ford will be watching the action closely on Saturday, January 17th—how about you?

Ford Racing Shows Off Consumer-Available Mustang King Cobra Package at SEMA

Mustang King Cobra PackageAt the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, we often see incredible concept vehicles decked out with the coolest accessories consumers are likely to never have. While we are inspired by the creativity of the auto tuners and their custom vehicles, it’s nice to see a vehicle every now and then that we could actually own. Such is the case with Ford’s King Cobra 2015 Mustang GT, built using Ford Racing performance parts.

“At Ford Racing, we like to push cars to their absolute limit,” said Ford Racing director, Jamie Allison. “We wanted Mustang enthusiasts to be able to open up the Ford Racing parts catalog and get one of everything and see what they could get. We think the King Cobra package is it. But none of this great work would be possible if Team Mustang had not built the best production Mustang yet.”

The Mustang King Cobra package includes a “Drag Pack,” “Handling Pack,” and “Super Pack.” Together, they offer high-powered performance reserved, not for the auto experts with models on display at the SEMA Show, but for race-loving, Mustang fans everywhere.

Ford’s Composer Creates the Soundtrack to Your Mustang

Ford's Composer

Interior Photo of the 2015 Ford Mustang

If we told you Ford has a composer on its payroll would that surprise you? Well, it’s true, but this person isn’t writing concertos for orchestras; Shawn Carney, a Ford engineer, is composing the soundtrack to your Mustang.

Imagine driving something as exciting as a Mustang without the powerful growl and grumble of the engine. Those sounds do not happen by magic—they have to be finely crafted and honed using every aspect of the car, from the engine, to the chassis, to the body panels.

Carney is a powertrain noise, vibration, and harshness engineer for the Ford Mustang. He works with a team of sound engineers to make sure every Mustang, no matter the engine installed, sounds like a Mustang should.

“In addition to the usual suspects you expect to hear inside the car, like the engine and exhaust, the body structure can become an incremental source of unwanted noise,” explained Carney, in a statement. “Body panels can act like speakers, amplifying vibration and sound inputs from the road, powertrain and wind.

Head to Ford’s website to hear a small clip of Carney’s work.

The all-new 2015 Ford Mustang will arrive at Friendly Ford this fall, and we can’t wait to hear its engine growl in person.
