In the moderate overlap front, side, head restraints and seats, and roof strength tests, the C-MAX Hybrid received the highest possible score of “Good,” highlighting its ability to protect passengers in nearly all conventional crash scenarios.
In the more difficult small overlap front crash test, which the IIHS deems the toughest front-side test performed by either itself or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the C-MAX Hybrid earned the second-highest possible score of “Acceptable.”
It also comes with a plethora of standard equipment, including MyKey, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, driver and passenger airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, a safety canopy system, SOS Post Crash Alert System, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

The 2013 Ford Focus recently earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The new Focus is of six small cars to achieve the highest possible rating from the IIHS. This award can go up on the Focus’ mantle right next to its 5-star Overall Vehicle Score award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The rating of Top Safety Pick+ is a new category in the ratings system. In order to achieve this highest of high ratings, a vehicle must achieve a “good” score in four safety evaluations. Those being overlap frontal crash, side impact, rollover, and seats/head restraints. The scoring is either “good”, “acceptable”, “marginal” or “poor.” Also, the vehicle must achieve a “good” or “acceptable” in the small overlap frontal crash category.
“Ford is committed to designing vehicles that help keep people safe,” said Steve Kenner, global director of Ford’s Automotive Safety Office. “We are constantly seeking innovative ways to help drivers avoid accidents and keep occupants safe when an incident does occur.”
The highly protective body structure of the Focus, along with its advanced safety technologies was designed to make families feel safe and comfortable.

Everyone knows the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi provides the best in fuel efficiency but did you know it also provides the best in safety? The Fusion Energi just received a 5 Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This is the highest rating by the US Government that a vehicle can receive. The rating is based off a series of tests to determine how the vehicle responds to crashes such as side frontal impact, side impact, and resistance to rollover.
The Ford Fusion and Ford Fusion Hybrid have both received the same crash-test rating. With the market share for electric vehicles increasing, the NHTSA chose to test the plug-in vehicles separately from the gasoline internal combustion engines. The Fusion Energi also received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) earlier in the year.
The Fusion Energi features the Personal Safety System with safety belt technologies along with font impact airbags. It also includes lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, rearview camera, hill state assist, and an electronic parking brake.
“The Fusion Energi combines the highest possible safety ratings from NHTSA and great fuel economy, two things we know customers are looking for in their vehicles,” said Steve Kenner, Global Director of the Ford Automotive Safety Office. “Our strategy is to provide our customers with a range of powertrain options in our vehicles, while still leading in fuel economy in every segment that we compete.”
