It wasn’t long ago that most heavy hitting automakers cut smaller pickups and truck-based SUVs from their lineups. Times have changed and with General Motors bringing back the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado, it may be time for another midsize pickup to return. Word on the street is that Ford is considering reviving the Ranger.
General Motors and Jeep have been rolling in sales as a result of lower gas and oil prices. Truck sales have been soaring. The full-size F-150 pickup is a bestseller but that still leaves Ford losing out in the midsize truck market.
Ford has discussed bringing a midsize pickup and SUV to the lines at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Detroit. The plant had been transformed during the recession to produce small cars and hybrids. Previously, the plant built Expeditions, F-150s, Lincoln Navigators, and Broncos.
With Ford moving the Focus and C-Max out of the country, that leaves plenty of open floor space. Rumor has it the pickup and SUV could be in production as soon as 2018, although there’s no confirmation on the plan.
While the common belief is that the Ford Ranger returning would hurt F-series sales, that idea seems unlikely. The average transaction price of an F-series truck now reaches over $40,000. That’s quite a bit of wiggle room for the smaller Ranger.
We here at Friendly Ford are ecstatic to see what will come out of the Michigan Assembly Plant!
When a single vehicle boasts at least 30 awards and accolades within one model year, it makes you sit up and take notice. Such is the story of the all-new 2015 Ford F-150. The truck’s 30th award is earned in collaboration with the F-250 and F-350 as Ford was named Best Overall Truck Brand in the Kelley Blue Book® 2015 Brand Image Awards.
2015 Ford F-Series Wins Best Overall Truck Brand in KBB’s 2015 Brand Image Awards
In order to determine the winners of the KBB Brand Image Award, data is taken from KBB’s Brand Watch Study, which is able to calculate opinions of new-car shoppers as they research for a new vehicle. Thirteen vehicles are named winners in seven categories based on their scores in twelve factors like exterior styling, affordability, fuel efficiency, prestige/sophistication, etc. The Best Overall Truck Brand award is the only category in which only one car is chosen as opposed to one mainstream model and one luxury.
This is Ford’s sixth time winning the award out of the seven times KBB has named a winner.
Here’s what the KBB experts had to say about Ford. “The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in the country or more than 30 years, so the fact that KBB.com visitors would name it the Best Overall Truck Brand isn’t surprising. But Ford isn’t taking its fortunes for granted. The boldly recast 2015 Ford F-150 boasts aluminum-intensive architecture that saves as much as 700 pounds and delivers a subsequent increase in fuel economy.”
If you want more proof than the general consensus of 12,000-plus new-car shoppers, stop by Friendly Ford today to test drive Ford’s trucks for yourself.

Ford Motor Company had the best March it has seen in eight years! Vehicle sales were up 3% year-over-year and there were 244,167 units sold last month. Ford attributes much of its success to the Fusion and its excellent lineup of F-Series trucks.
Through the month, Ford sold a whopping 70,940 trucks which beat out their 70,000 benchmark and was an increase of 5% from last year. It is important to note that the 70,000 benchmark has only been beaten four times; therefore March was an extremely good month for the F-Series. Along with the ability to do some serious work, the F-Series of trucks pack comfort, technology, and reliability making them excellent family vehicles as well.
2014 Ford Fusion
The Ford Fusion was sold 32,963 times which was an increase of 9% year-over-year. This car was introduced in 2005, and has since really taken hold of the sedan market. The Fusion offers style, class, and efficiency making it an all-around great vehicle. Many people choose this sedan because of its exceptional interior space and luxurious feel. It’s safe to say that the Fusion was a great addition to the Ford family almost 10 years ago.
If you would like to see why these vehicles lead the way for Ford sales in March, stop by our Chicago area dealership. The team here at Friendly Ford will be happy to assist you in choosing the perfect vehicle to fit your needs!
The total number of F-Series trucks sold last year was 645,316 (WOW that’s A LOT of trucks!) and 2013 F-Series Sales have surpassed that. The F-Series has been the best selling truck for 37 years strait and continues to grow the sales gap over rivals – Silverado and Ram.
In October, F-Series sales were up 13% and this was also the 6th straight month of sales over 60,000 units. Currently, Ford is on its way to having the best yearly sales total since 2006! You may be asking just what makes Ford trucks so successful?
Ford has been working hard to be the first with new innovations and technologies. Ford introduced the EcoBoost® fuel-saving engine that really helped with all around truck efficiency. Ford also introduced the MyFord Touch connectivity system which offers the latest and greatest when it comes to interior technology and entertainment.
Over the past 5 years, the F-Series has really taken off in the Midwest and Pains which is mostly due to the expansion of domestic energy and the renewable energy industry. Ford trucks that run on natural gas have really taken off in recent years and that number is going to increase into the future.

Small cars continued their hot start to the year totaling 35,851 units sold which was 39 percent better than last June thanks to the popularity of the Fiesta, Focus, and C-Max. The Ford Escape led the way for SUVs as it posted its best monthly sales totals ever with 28,694 units sold.

Ford had quite an impressive display at the North American International Auto Show this year. It was jam packed with over 65 vehicles, as Ford was celebrating the 150th birthday of the legendary Henry Ford. To celebrate, Ford wanted to reveal its entire stellar lineup—everything from the F-Series trucks to the muscle car icon, the Mustang. In fact, it was essentially like stepping into the showroom here at Friendly Ford with every single new Ford innovation on display.
And who better to talk about Ford innovation than the original innovator—Henry Ford! The real Henry Ford wasn’t available, as you can imagine, so instead several actors who very closely resemble the automaker put on their Ford costumes and led tours around the showroom, taking fans around to meet the all-new vehicles and see just what Ford has been up to. During the tour, the actors provided a historical background for Henry, all while introducing the 2014 lineup.
We at Friendly Ford can’t wait to get all those new vehicles in. Now if only we could somehow get a Henry Ford lookalike to come show them off for us…
