Every year, the editors at Kelley Blue Book’s prestigious KBB.com create a list of the most efficient vehicles available in the industry. The list reflects the ten standouts in the green car segment from a variety of price ranges and powertrains. With Ford’s innovative powertrain technologies, it comes as no surprise that KBB.com’s 10 Best Green Cars list recognized the popular Ford C-MAX hybrid lineup, showcasing the appeal of the eco-friendly hatchback.
The C-MAX hybrid lineup includes both the C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi, which are the vehicle’s plug-in hybrid variants. These two models use Ford’s innovative power-split technology to offer an electric mode that is faster than any other hybrid. Ford offers sporty styling, which highlights the C-MAX’s superior driving dynamics. The hatchback vehicle also offers a bigger battery, giving the C-MAX Energi an impressive, all-electric range of 21 miles.

The C-MAX Energi is a plug-in hybrid car that will give you up to 19 miles of electric-only driving on a fully-charged battery. In the moderate overlap front, side, head restraints and seats, and roof strength tests, the C-MAX Hybrid received the highest possible score of “Good,” highlighting its ability to protect passengers in nearly all conventional crash scenarios.
In the more difficult small overlap front crash test, which the IIHS deems the toughest front-side test performed by either itself or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the C-MAX Hybrid earned the second-highest possible score of “Acceptable.”
It also comes with a plethora of standard equipment, including MyKey, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, driver and passenger airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, a safety canopy system, SOS Post Crash Alert System, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

The 2013 Ford C-MAX, which launched in October, has been quite a hot seller. So much so that it earned itself the title of “fastest-selling hybrid ever.” In its first two months this red hot hybrid has sold 8,030 total units. That trumps the start of the Toyota Camry Hybrid which sold 7,300 units in its first two months when it first hit the road back in 2006.
Another impressive statistic is that Ford’s C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid sold three times faster than both the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight combined when they launched in 2000. Ford’s electric vehicles sales in November actually turned out to be the best they’ve ever done and the great fuel efficiency that these hybrids offer is the reason why.
In addition to the huge sales numbers, the C-MAX hybrids have also been receiving extremely positive reviews from their owners. “Dealers are aware of this and are excited to take on the Prius” Group marketing manager, C.J. O’Donnell, said “Our customers also are excited to have a fresh hybrid option, with leading fuel economy that does not sacrifice driving fun, performance and technology – choices typically not offered with hybrids.”
At the end of the day fuel economy is the number one consideration that new car-buyers look for according to recent study by Moritz. During tough economic times, saving money at the pump is becoming much more a necessity. “C-MAX hybrids highlight Ford’s commitment to offer customers the power to choose leading fuel economy across our lineup”, says O’Donnell.
