Transit Connect Wagon Grabs International Van of the Year Award

The all-new Ford Transit Connect was recently named the “International Van of the Year 2014” this month in Moscow at the COMTRANS commercial vehicle exhibition. This is the first time that any auto brand has taken home this award in back to back years. This is now Ford’s 5th International Van of the Year Award adding to their wins in 2001, 2003, 2007, and another in 2013.  Ford won the award after a jury of 24 European specialist journalists scored the Transit Connect 130 out of 163 which beat out the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and the Renault Kangoo.

“The all-new Transit Connect has moved the game on for compact vans – and we are really proud to win this significant award again,” said Barb Samardzich, vice president of Product Development, Ford of Europe. “The new Transit Connect is just as tough and hard-working as all our commercial vehicle range, and comes with smart new looks and much lower fuel bills.”

The stylish, new Transit Connect offers class-leading fuel economy, durability, and load carrying ability. It comes with the highly fuel-efficient 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine also offering class-leading petrol economy.

Friendly Ford is proud to see Ford collect another word with the new Transit Connect.

Ford Invests $700 Million in Canadian Plant

Ford Motor Company knows a good investment when they see it, which is why they invested $700 million Canadian into the Oakville, Ontario assembly plant. Currently Ford is Canada’s top-selling automaker and is using this investment to meet an increase in global demand for their product.

“This investment is helping us find much needed capacity for global products and securing jobs, and it is positioning Oakville as one of the most competitive and important facilities in the Ford system,” said Joe Hinrichs, president of The Americas, speaking from a ceremony at the plant today. “Global fuel-efficient products, built in a state-of-the-art facility, by a great workforce are a win for everyone today.”

Ford will not only bring 2,800 more jobs to the plant with this investment, but also begin producing several new global models, allowing Ford to better meet the demand both in North America and across the globe. It will also increase the amount of Canadian money spent on auto parts to C$4 billion annually.

Currently, Ford utilizes nine global platforms to build 85 percent of its vehicles. This allows Ford to leverage commonality among components, design, and building processes, which in turn allows them to seamlessly change the type of vehicle they are producing without much hassle.

The Oakville Assembly Plant is best known for its production of the Ford Edge, which you can check out at Friendly Ford today!

Guess the Score

We’ve been waiting all year for this and it’s finally back. In the Chicago area, we’re not just talking about the NFL season. Let’s make that clear. We’re talking about Bears season. We’re giving you, our dear Facebook fans, a chance to win a free oil change every week by guessing the score of Da Bears game that week on our Facebook page.

Friendly Ford will be running a Guess the Score contest on our Facebook timeline every week of the NFL season, except for of course the Bears bye week. So give us your best guess of the final score of that week’s Bears game. The person that is able to guess the score correctly will win a free oil change. Please limit guesses to one per person. If there are multiple guesses correct, the person who guessed first will win. If no one guesses correctly, no one wins. The guess must include the score for both teams participating so we know which team scored what.

Friendly Ford is hoping for the Bears can go deep into the playoffs this year. Some join in on the fun every week on our Facebook page. We still have a full season ahead of us so be on the lookout for the Guess the Score posts each win and give us your best guess. Good luck and go Bears!
