Ford Looks to Social Media for New Fiesta Campaign

Once again, Ford will be looking to their social media friends, fans, and followers for help with an experiment that turns out to be quite a fiesta for the participants. A select group made up 100 bloggers, tweeters, and some big name celebrities will be given keys to a new Ford Fiesta for a 6-month test drive. These individuals will then be asked to document their entire driving experience on social media as they go.

Pictures and videos from this experience will be posted online on the social media sites and will be used to help Ford build their next ad campaign for the new Fiesta. This campaign, which is being called the “social remix,” isn’t the first time Ford has tapped into social media for an experiment like this. Four years ago Ford also handed over Fiesta keys to a group of fans, which again included celebrities.

The first campaign in 2009 was very successful as thousands of applicants were willing to take part in the experiment. The number of applicants is expected to be even higher this time around. If you’re 21 or over, online applications are being accepted right now at http://www.fiestamovement.com/apply.

Along with filling out the application, Ford wants you to pitch why you’d be a perfect candidate to take part in the experiment. They’re going to be looking for strong creativity and a wow factor. The lucky participants that are chosen for the “social remix” will be receiving the new Fiestas around April or May.

Friendly Ford encourages everyone to consider giving it a shot! Or if you just want to test drive a Fiesta on your own, come out and see us today!

Six Fords Named Best Cars for the Money

For the second year in a row, US News & World Report recognizes Ford as the automotive leader, as six Ford vehicles were named as “2013 Best Cars for the Money.” US News & World Report determines the winner in each of 21 categories based on expert opinion, reliability attributes, and vehicle safety.

With its stylish looks, smart driving technology, 285 horsepower, and unsurpassed highway fuel economy, the 2013 Ford Edge was chosen as the best 2-row midsize SUV. Another stylish SUV that delivers the best fuel economy in its class is the 2013 Ford Escape which was named the best compact SUV for the money.

As far as cars, the vehicle that has been generating the most buzz is the innovative Ford Fusion, which boasts a top safety rating from the NHTSA and was named by The Car Connection as the “Best Car to Buy 2013.” So it’s no surprise the Fusion was named as one of the best cars for the money in midsize category. In addition to that, the Fusion Hybrid was named best hybrid car thanks to its best in class fuel economy of 47 city/47 highway/47 combined mpg.

One of the best selling cars in the world, the Ford Focus was named the best compact car and the always popular Ford Taurus was picked as the best large car for the money.

Happy 50th MJ!

The greatest basketball player to ever play in Chicago—who are we kidding, the greatest athlete ever to play any sport, anywhere, ever—Michael Jordan, is reaching a new milestone this weekend. It’s actually not basketball related this time. Hard to believe but our sports hero is turning 50 on Sunday.

Jordan retired from the Chicago Bulls after the 1997-1998 season (let’s forget about that stint with the Washington Wizards) which was actually 14 years ago, but he’s still undoubtedly the most iconic athlete the world has ever seen.  His bald head, baggy shorts, and trademark Air Jordan shoes helped re-style the NBA. His off-the-court impact has also been indicated by his Jordan Brand clothing, Jordan Cologne, and the countless endorsements deals (Gatorade, Nike, McDonalds, etc.). Even today, when Jordan chimes in and give his opinion on the debate of who is better between Kobe and LeBron, it’s all the sudden the top story.

Over his illustrious NBA career, Jordan collected 6 NBA championships, 6 Finals MVPs, 5 regular season MVPs, 14 All-Star appearances, 3 All-Star game MVPs, 10 scoring titles, 1 Defensive Player of the Year award, 1 Rookie of the Year award, and 10 All-NBA first team selections. Throw in an NCAA championship and 2 Olympic Gold Medals and you’re looking one of the accomplished athletes ever.

He played and carried himself with such style and grace to the point that everything he did all the sudden became popular and became cool. This man was and truly is larger than life.

Here at Friendly Ford, we’d like to give a Happy Birthday shout out to Michael Jordan! Thanks for the memories, Mike!

Ford Focus Electric Earns Top Safety Rating

The new 2013 Ford Focus Electric recently received a top vehicle safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Ford’s first ever all-electric passenger vehicle received a five-star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) testing. This safety performance test is based on the vehicle’s resistance to rollover in combination with its frontal and side-impact crash tests.

The Focus Electric has airbag technologies on the front and side which is designed to protect each individual passenger. The driver’s airbag features a curved tether system that pulls down in the lower section to create a pocket to help protect the driver’s chest and ribs from the impact of the airbag.

In addition to the dual-stage front and the side curtain airbags, security features include AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children), Anti-theft engine immobilizer, and Four-wheel anti-lock braking system.

“As more people shop for electrified vehicles, the Focus Electric now offers both a top vehicle safety rating from NHTSA and a faster-charging technology that allows it to fully recharge in three to four hours,” said Steve Kenner, global director of the Ford Automotive Safety Office.

Friendly Ford isn’t surprised to see surprised to see another Ford added to the list of top-safety rated vehicles.
