Joey Logano was back to Victory Lane in his Mustang at Phoenix International Raceway, where he won his second career XFINITY series race.
We’d been waiting for a while at Friendly Ford to see the automaker score an XFINITY win again, and it was about time. Logano had finished second in his last four starts in the series, despite having started from pole in the last three.
This time, Logano took pole again but managed to make it stick during the race, even as runner-up Matt Kenseth fiercely contested his lead all day long. In the end, the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang led 176 of the 200 laps at the one-mile track. Not bad!
“It felt good,” said Logano, who collected his 22nd career win in Phoenix. “It took a long time to get our next win. We’ve been so close to winning—obviously, a lot of poles and things are going well. We just needed a little more speed, and it was awesome to get it today.”

When the first Ford Shelby® GT350R Mustang rolled off the assembly line, it wasn’t headed to Chi-town to join our display of vehicles here at Friendly Ford—or any other dealership for that matter. Instead, the road racer was delivered to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction where it was awarded to the highest bidder. The winning bid of the VIN 001 Shelby GT350R earned $1,000,000 for JDRF and its research in type 1 diabetes.
While the Shelby GT350R ‘Stang won’t officially go on sale until later this year, the auction of the first-ever retail production vehicle caused great excitement in the world of auto enthusiasts. It was also an exciting day for those affiliated with JDRF. The non-profit organization is dedicated to researching ways to better treat type 1 diabetes as they work to find a cure.
The $1,000,000 in funds received from the Ford Shelby GT350R auction will support the organization’s research.
“JDRF is honored to share in Ford’s 50-year celebration of the new Shelby GT350R at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale,” said JDRF president and CEO, Derek Rapp. “As the leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research, JDRF is extremely proud of our long-time partnership with Ford, and we are tremendously thankful for Ford’s continued support of JDRF. JDRF benefits greatly from this partnership, which is an essential element of our pursuit of our shared vision of a world without type 1.”
Ford is no stranger to helping those in need. The automaker frequently donates money to various causes and organizations—the latest of which is JDRF, a national organization dedicated to the funding of type 1 diabetes research. In order to help JDRF continue its mission in the New Year, Ford is holding a 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang auction at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona next month. The winner will become the proud owner of the first production 2015 Shelby GT350 with his or her choice of color and packages.
The auction coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350 Mustang, which was offered between 1965 and 1970 and has become one of the most iconic and sought-after classic cars ever made. The Shelby GT350 is coming back to the market for 2015, and this auction is Ford’s way of reintroducing it with a bang.
“The all-new Shelby GT350 is a thrilling, world-class car,” remarked Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford. “From the all-new independent suspension – a first for a Shelby, to the powerful engine and superb brakes, this car is simply amazing. Just as the Shelby GT350 did in 1965, we expect this new-generation pony car to demonstrate Ford Motor Company continues to lead the world in innovation and performance.”
Competition at the auction is sure to be fierce. We at Friendly Ford will be watching the action closely on Saturday, January 17th—how about you?
The all-new 2015 Ford Mustang GT has earned itself a spot on Car and Driver’s 10Best list. This is the ninth time the Mustang has earned this honor in the list’s 33-year history and has been included on the list for four of the last five years.
The 10Best list names the best new cars in the United States for under $80,000, regardless of class or capabilities.
“It’s a huge honor to have the Mustang GT recognized on Car and Driver’s 10Best list,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer, in a statement. “The substantial amount of time and effort our engineering team put into Mustang has paid off; we’re hopeful that the car has a substantial presence on the 10Best list for years to come.”
Car and Driver loved the Mustang’s fun-to-drive nature and commented that when going through a series of turns, the Mustang makes you feel like “you’re wearing wheels.”
Come see for yourself what makes the 2015 Ford Mustang GT one of the best and most fun cars of the year. It is available now at Friendly Ford.
As the Ford Mustang turns 50 in 2015, Ford is creating a program called ICON50 to commemorate and celebrate this milestone. Arguably the finest-looking and best-engineered American sports car from then until now, Ford is right to cast the Mustang as an American icon. According to Forbes, the ICON50 program sees “Ford uniting with experts” in various cultural fields “to identify what is happening now and what is coming next.”
For ICON50, Ford hooked up with Hard Rock Hotel & Casinos. Together, they were able to identify ten musical artists that are “pushing the boundaries of what’s being done in music today.” This list includes such acts as Cathedrals, Young Rising Sons, and Betty Who.
A few of these acts were tapped to perform in the CMJ Music Marathon, a five-day music festival held in New York City. Forbes tells us that “there are set to be follow-up performances over the next few months that will be promoted by the two companies.”
