Donated Ford Transit Connect Cargo Vans Set To Help Hunger Relief Cause

Ford Transit Connect

If you think about it, the Ford Transit Connect is the best vehicle to serve hunger relief efforts. It’s highly efficient so you can keep costs down, meaning more money will go to more important things. It’s also got enormous cargo space, which in effect also saves gas as you can transport more with each trip. In fact, according to the automaker, each Transit Connect is capable of transporting 1,100 meals per vehicle per trip.

Hunger relief is actually one of a number of causes for which Ford has given its support. The latest charitable move was to donate five Ford Transit Connect cargo vans to various organizations that serve the Kansas City, Louisville, Miami, Phoenix and Dallas metropolitan areas.

Ford is well aware of the food insecurity issue in America. Janet Lawson, director of the Ford Motor Company Fund, said in a press release, “More than 48 million Americans live in fear of going hungry each day.” The donated Ford Transit Connect vehicles will tangibly help the cause.

An Explanation of Drive Systems: Which Is Right for You?

All-wheel-drive (AWD), front-wheel-drive (FWD), rear-wheel-drive (RWD), and four-wheel-drive (4WD) describe how the power from the engine is delivered to the wheels. These four systems help us to understand how the car drives, and how it will handle in different conditions. If you don’t understand the differences between the systems, it can be overwhelming to know which system is right for your lifestyle.

All-wheel-drive (AWD) – Power is delivered to all four wheels as needed, all the time, resulting in improved traction and reliable handling in all weather conditions. Car shoppers who live in areas that get a lot of snow, ice, or rain should consider AWD. Keep in mind that because AWD systems are heavier than FWD or RWD, you’ll likely sacrifice some fuel economy.

Front-wheel-drive (FWD) – Power is sent from the engine to the front wheels. Since the front wheels do the steering and deliver the power, FWD vehicles provide impressive traction on slippery streets. FWD has become increasingly popular as the go-to option for passenger sedans.

Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) – Power is sent from the engine to the rear wheels only. Most commonly found in sports cars, performance vehicles, and heavy-duty utility vehicles, the extra power in the rear allows for speedier takeoff and acceleration.

Four-wheel-drive (4WD) – Equal amounts of power are sent to the front and rear tires for improved traction while navigating difficult terrain in slippery conditions, including dirt, mud, sand, and snow. Generally, 4WD is reserved for true off-roading vehicles, like truck-based SUVs and pickups. Shoppers who are looking to get off the beaten-path should consider 4WD.

Ford Ranger Returning to Lineup?

ford logoIt wasn’t long ago that most heavy hitting automakers cut smaller pickups and truck-based SUVs from their lineups. Times have changed and with General Motors bringing back the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado, it may be time for another midsize pickup to return. Word on the street is that Ford is considering reviving the Ranger.

General Motors and Jeep have been rolling in sales as a result of lower gas and oil prices. Truck sales have been soaring. The full-size F-150 pickup is a bestseller but that still leaves Ford losing out in the midsize truck market.

Ford has discussed bringing a midsize pickup and SUV to the lines at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Detroit. The plant had been transformed during the recession to produce small cars and hybrids. Previously, the plant built Expeditions, F-150s, Lincoln Navigators, and Broncos.

With Ford moving the Focus and C-Max out of the country, that leaves plenty of open floor space. Rumor has it the pickup and SUV could be in production as soon as 2018, although there’s no confirmation on the plan.

While the common belief is that the Ford Ranger returning would hurt F-series sales, that idea seems unlikely. The average transaction price of an F-series truck now reaches over $40,000. That’s quite a bit of wiggle room for the smaller Ranger.

We here at Friendly Ford are ecstatic to see what will come out of the Michigan Assembly Plant!

Ford Introduces Ford F-150 Limited

Ford is aiming for the high end of the automotive market with the unveiling of a new luxury version F-150 pickup. Consumers in the United States have been snapping up trucks and SUVs in the midst of lower gas prices, leaving fuel efficient coupes and sedans in the rearview mirror. The F-150 Platinum will soon take a step down from the top of the F-150 ladder to make way for this new trim.

The 2016 Ford F-150 Limited will head to dealer lots later this year. One of the new features practically explains the amount of luxury within the pickup in itself: multi-contour massaging seats.

Fifty percent of Ford’s pickup sales in the month of June consisted of the three current premium models, the Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. The Lariat tops $40,000 while the current top-of-the-line Platinum can hit upwards of $60,000 depending on options.

The F-150 Limited will also top $60,000 in answer to consumer’s high end demands. The pickup will pack a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine under the hood. Fuel economy will sit at an EPA-estimated 17 city/24 hwy mpg.

The Ford F-Series has been the best-selling model in the United States since 1982.

We at Friendly Ford are waiting on our toes for the latest in luxury pickups to arrive!

Ford Car Sharing Program Under Way in UK

loanThese days, our cars are an important part of our daily lives; now, you will be able to let other people depend on your car too. The new Ford car sharing program allows owners to rent their vehicles to others if they use a Ford finance package to pay for their vehicle. The first car manufacturer in the United Kingdom to offer this service, Ford has partnered with easyCar Club to make it possible.

The new system allows owners to rent their cars for others use. The logic in the system recognizes that many cars remain in one place, whether you’re at work, school, or a family gathering. The opportunity to make a little money renting out your car isn’t out of the question for many drivers.

The system is currently preparing to undergo trials. In all, 12,000 Ford finance package customers from London will take part. Customers have until August 1, 2015 to sign up. The pilot program will last a total of six months.

The real question that begs to be answered is whether or not drivers will be willing to let others drive their cars unsupervised. Although it’s currently only in the trial stage in the United Kingdom, if the program is a success, it’s possible we’ll see it here in the States as well.

Summer Travel Tips for a Memorable Vacation

vacationThe time has officially come; summertime is here! For those of you about to head out on the vacation of a lifetime, or for those just making a road trip upstate, we’ve compiled a small list of some summer travel tips that will hopefully make your journey a little easier.

  1. Saving Money – If you’re traveling by car, save money by taking a cooler with drinks and food along with you. You’ll need to stop less and purchased food costs won’t add up. If you’re planning to fly, you can save money by bundling the hotel, car, and airfare.
  1. Think in Body Sections – Unless you’re a professional packer, remembering everything can be difficult. If you think in portions of your body it will help. Write your main body parts down and next to them write what you’ll need to take with you.
  1. Pack Old Clothing – If you’re like most people, souvenirs are a must when traveling. However, if you have a bag that’s already full, making room for new things will prove difficult. If you choose to wear old clothing on the trip that can be tossed at the end, you’ll have much more room for new stuff you buy along the way.
  1. Keeping Kids Occupied – Plan ahead and pack coloring books, paper, crossword puzzles, and other games to keep your kids occupied while on a long journey. Take a Ziploc bag full of crayons and you’re all set.
  1. Pack Change of Clothes – In a separate bag, pack one change of clothes for everyone on the trip just in case they’re needed.

We hope you all have a safe and relaxing summer vacation! For more summer travel tips, click here.

Ford Sets Record with World’s Largest Hot Wheels Track Loop

Ford LogoFord recently set a new world record for the largest Hot Wheels track loop, a feat accomplished to celebrate Take Your Child to Work Day. The Ford Hot Wheel loop, created in the Ford Research and Innovation Center, topped out at over twelve feet tall. The previous record was only nine feet.

If you’re wondering why Ford would take the time to do this, we have two things to say to you. One, you need to be reminded just how much fun playing with Hot Wheels is! Two, Ford hopes the cool new car track loop will interest a new generation of kids in playing around with the fields of science and engineering. After all, in those fields, you get to make real cars that actually go on the world’s roads, not just on tracks.

Matt West, Ford dynamometer, explained how this record-setting plan came into action. “It started as part-fun, part-physics lesson with my son at home,” said West. “We built one in our playroom, and then built a five-foot- tall loop in our backyard. When people at Ford heard what we were up to, everyone thought it would be a great way to get young people excited about science and engineering by trying to break the world record on Take Your Child to Work Day.”
