Summertime has long been considered a time of relaxation, sunshine, fun, and indulgence. However, with a little preparation, you can have a healthy summer while still having fun. Read our tips below to find out how.
Use sunscreen. While you might want to head to the beach to soak up the rays, you still need to apply a sunscreen with a least a rating of SPF 30. Reapply every two to three hours, especially if swimming.
Drink water. The summer sun can easily lead to a hot, sweaty day. This, in turn, can leave you dehydrated. Drink plenty of water or try other healthy alternatives like green tea, coconut water, or even a juicy piece of fruit.
Keep exercising. If the high temperatures make you avoid outdoor exercise, considering joining a gym, watching and following along with exercise videos at home, or switching your exercise routine to early in the morning or later in the evening when it is cooler outside.
Bring healthy snacks. For your next family outing, plan ahead and pack a cooler full of healthy snacks like yogurt, veggies and hummus, peanut butter wraps, and fruit. This can help you avoid relying on fast food.
What are your favorite ways to stay healthy in the summer? If you need a new summer vehicle, come visit us at Friendly Ford.
Friendly Ford is thrilled that Matt Yockey has been promoted to the role of General Manager here at the dealership. Matt has been with the company for quite a while and all his hard work has definitely paid off. We sat down with Matt to learn a little bit about his background, interests, and goals for the dealership.
Are you from the Roselle, IL area?
I live in St. Charles, IL, which is about 25 minutes away. I was born and raised there.
How did you come to work at Friendly Ford?
Friendly Ford GM – Matt Yockey
In High School I got into a program where I could work for half of the day, and so, I went to Friendly Ford and I asked for a job. They started me off washing cars and sweeping floors. Soon after that I worked my way up to becoming a Lube Tech/ Mechanic. I liked it so much I decided to attend UTI (Universal Technical Institute) and graduate Ford FACT, which is basically becoming an authorized Ford Motor Company Technician. From there I became a Master Diesel Mechanic, Service Manager, and then finally became the GM of this great dealership and team.
What are your future goals for Friendly Ford?
I would really like to see Friendly Ford grow into a larger business. Right now, we are a “small fish in a big sea”, and I want to become the standard for building great relationships with customers and customer service itself in Roselle. We really care about our customers, and I want to show each one that we appreciate them stopping by to see us.
What are you most passionate about when it comes to your job?
I love the variety this job offers. Each day is different from the customers I help and employees I work with to the cars that come to our lot and service team. I cannot guess what my day will be like. There is never a dull moment, and I am excited for what the day will bring.
If you could have your dream car, what would it be?
That is a tough question! I have more than one. Can I just have them all? Half of me wants to go towards the supercar, the Ford GT. Everyone likes that. I also have a little part of me that wants an old Ford Mustang retrofitted to the new body style and engine, but the hillbilly part of me wants a monster, jacked diesel engine truck. In the end, I guess I don’t just have one. I have like six.
Outside of work, what do you do for fun?
Matt with his wife and daughter.
I love to boat and go boating, and wake surfing is a lot of fun. Other than that, snowmobiles and ATVs take up most of my time. I have a little girl now, so I end up hanging out with her and my wife a lot as well, which is amazing.
If they made a movie about your life, what famous actor would you like to play you?
The Rock! I love The Rock. He makes everything better and he’s a Ford guy!
Now that you’ve learned a little bit about Matt Yockey, stop by Friendly Ford today and say hello! Whether you’re looking to buy a vehicle or get it serviced, Matt will make sure you’re in good hands.

The new Ford plant will cost $700 million to build and will be located in Flat Rock, Michigan. It will primarily produce electric and self-driving cars. Ford believes these will outnumber gas-powered cars within 15 years. Ford has a number of new electric and self-driving vehicles in the works to be released in the next five years, including a hybrid version of the Mustang.
Canceling the Mexico plant is a big change for Ford, as they were ready to invest $1.6 billion in Mexico and move production of the Ford Focus there. Now, they will move production of the Focus to a plant in Mexico that already exists and instead invest the money in expanding on US soil. Ford is still moving the Focus to Mexico in order to cut costs, since the Focus and other small cars are losing popularity in favor of larger vehicles like SUVs and trucks.
The pickup truck segment has a ton of popular contenders, especially in the American market, so it can be difficult to pin down the best of the best. That’s why Car and Driver made your job easier by naming the Ford F-150 the best full-size pickup. Offering consumers an affordable blend of sophistication and capability, the F-150 is a great truck for drivers who want a bit of everything without sacrificing the toughness associated with the full-size segment.
Car and Driver cites the Ford F-150’s incredible power and smooth ride as a major reason for its selection – the available 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 under the hood cranks out 450 HP and 510 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful in its segment. Plus, the inclusion of an exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission puts it at the forefront of innovation. However, even without the extra bells and whistles, the $27,735 base model can’t be ignored thanks to its combo of upscale refinement and capable performance.
There’s a reason the Ford F-150 is the best full-size pickup, and that’s because it offers all kinds of standard and available features. With all the additional equipment, the F-150 easily swerves into luxury territory. Don’t forget about the all-new F-150 Raptor either, with its cutting-edge off-road capability.
Winter is here, which means you’ll need to get used to driving in cold weather. From ice to snow, driving conditions simply get worse when the thermometer dips. That’s why it’s important to stay prepared. Read on to learn more about tips for winter driving.
To begin with, check your tires. If you haven’t already considered buying winter tires, now is the time to get them. These tires are made with special rubber compounds that stand up in cold weather. They also have thicker treads to help with slippery surfaces, and special trenches divert water to prevent hydroplaning. In cold weather, it’s also important to check tire pressure, as the psi dips when the temperature lowers.
According to Market Wire, you should also be sure to add antifreeze.
Though water works well as coolant during the summertime, it can freeze and crack the engine in the winter. Antifreeze prevents this—usually a 50/50 blend works best. In fact, many technicians find that a blend works better in lower temperatures than pure antifreeze. In short, follow the directions.
Finally, change your oil. Cold weather usually calls for a less viscous—or less thick—oil. Plus, by the end of the year, it’s likely that you need to change your oil anyway. Opting for a thicker oil will help coat the engine and provide a better layer of lubrication, extending the life of your car.
In conclusion, check your tire pressure, add antifreeze, and be sure to change the oil. These are the best tips for winter maintenance you’ll find anywhere.
